Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance has been designed to provide students with thorough knowledge and skills in the financial sector, with a particular focus on the influence and impact of Islamic frameworks on economics, banking and finance generally.

The central aim of the programme is to teach the students about:

  1. Basic concepts, theories and practices of economics, banking and finance.
  2. Different economic systems around the world.
  3. Mechanisms and functioning of various large economies of the world and their interaction with each other.
  4. Various problems and issues in global economies.
  5. The way in which  banks, financial institutions and markets around the world operate.
  6. Islamic principles of economics and their application in banking and finance.

Upon completion of the programme, the student will be awarded the Bachelor of Science Degree in Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

This programme is a blend of conventional finance and Islamic courses; and includes all major focal areas of economics, banking and finance. The courses have selectively and strategically been included in order to fulfill the holistic aim and objective of the programme

PROGRAMME LEARNING OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the programme, students should be competent in the following areas:

PLO 1: Knowledge of basic theories and principles of economics, banking and finance.

Knowledge-

Comprehensive knowledge of economics, banking and finance provided to all students using reputed books and sources. The students would participate in live sessions and seminars, and submit non-plagiarized assignments to achieve the benchmark.

PLO 2: Relate economic concepts and theories to real world scenarios in functioning of various economies and institutions.

Practical skills-

Students would develop the practical skills by applying the knowledge gained in real life context

PLO 3: Develop high standards of managerial, leadership and communication skills.

Managerial skills and responsibilities-

Managerial skills and responsibilities are the two components which would be developed immensely by the students who are undergoing the programme. The student would demonstrate their proficiency by participating in related cases and discussions.

PLO 4 Adopt Islamic/ethical principles and practices in economic and business matters of life.

Ethics, professionalism and humanities-

Students will benefit from the blended structure of conventional economics with Islamic economics. Education of Islamic economic thoughts would provide the students with strong ethical approaches to economics and business.

PLO 5: Conduct basic research using scholarly sources and techniques to acquire new knowledge in the area of interest.

Scientific methods, critical thinking and problem-solving skills-

Student-led research in the various research assignments will lead to the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

PLO 6: Develop entrepreneurial capabilities.

Entrepreneurship Skills-

Some of the courses in this programme would enable the students to broaden their vision and expand their thought process, thereby improving their entrepreneurial skills.

Careers

Students will be able work as professionals in the area of Islamic banking and finance. Students may also go for higher studies and research in academics.
