Born on the 17th of August 1989 in Cape Town, South Africa, his love for knowledge began when he was a high school student and started attending classes at the masjid.
He enrolled at an institution for higher Islamic studies and studied all the basic Islamic sciences & graduated six years later (2006-2011) at the age of 21. Besides his formal studies, he also studied privately with various scholars around Cape Town as well as online. He covered the following subjects: Hadith, the science of Hadith, Aqeedah and Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh and Seerah, with private teachers.
Currently, he is enrolled as a BAIS student at IOU whilst simultaneously completing a B.A (Hons) degree in Theology at the University of the Western Cape. He taught various Islamic sciences for three years at the institution where he graduated from. Apart from that he teaches various private classes (Hadith, Arabic, Fiqh, Aqeedah etc) at different venues around Cape Town. He is also a regular guest lecturer at different mosques in Cape Town and a lecturer for the Al-Huda foundation (an institution offering short courses, seminars and various classes).
Currently residing in Cape Town, he is married and has 2 daughters.
An electronics & communications engineer by professional training who opted to spread the word of Allah”, is an apt description of this 32 year old public speaker & trainer, His journey into the world of comparative religion & Da’wah started at the age of 21 as a participant of the Da’wah Training Programme conducted by Dr. Zakir Naik at IRF, Mumbai in the year 2001.
The zeal within him in clarifying misconceptions about Islam was kindled by Shaikh Ahmed Deedat & Dr. Zakir Naik. The exposure to these world renowned scholars resulted in him choosing Da’wah over engineering. Being a passionate full time Da’ee since 2002, specializing in inter-faith dialogues, Ather Khan has participated in numerous one-on-one sessions & group discussions with non-muslims and, (by the grace of Allah) has clarified a number of misconceptions about Islam amongst television viewers as well as live audiences in various parts of the globe.
He has been delivering talks on Islam and Comparative Religion for the last ten years.
Ather Khan is also an accomplished trainer with experience in imparting Da’wah training to students of comparative religion and was a faculty member in the IRF Da’wah Training Programme conducted in 2004 and he also conducted a Da’wah Training Programme organized by the IPCI, Birmingham (UK).
Dr. Muhammad Anwar Sahib Almadani is a Fiji born, Kiwi (New Zealand) Islamic scholar. He started to study at Madeenah Islamic University at the age of 14. After completing anArabic language course and graduating from high school, he completed his BA in Islamic studies. Later on, he completed his masters and PhD (1999) in Quranic science from the same university. He has authored a few books in Arabic and English that are yet to be published. He has presented Islamic programs on Voice of Islam, New Zealand and various radio channels.
He has coordinated many Islamic courses in various countries: New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. He has attended many conferences locally and abroad. He is a founding member and chairman of AtTaqwa Trust, Auckland, New Zealand. His roles include that of Imaam, Khateeb and religious advisor. He is also the Secretary for the Ulama board of New Zealand and advisor for halal issues to the NZ government.
Dr. Nissar Ahmad Yatoo completed a Ph.D. in Finance with specialization in Islamic Finance in the Department of Banking Technology at the Pondicherry University. During his Ph.D., he presented and published papers mostly in the area of Islamic finance. Dr. Nissar also attended and participated in various international conferences, workshops and refresher courses in the area of finance. He holds a Master of Finance and Control (MFC) from the Department of Business and Financial Studies, University of Kashmir; a Post Graduate Diploma in Statistics and Research Methodology (PGDSRM) from Department of Statistics, Pondicherry University; a B.Sc and a B.Ed from the University of Kashmir.
Dr. Nissar has an extensive coordinating and lecturing experience in the areas of accounting, banking and finance.
Hasnain Baber has an MBA specialized in Finance and Marketing from Central University of Kashmir. Hasnain Baber is currently working as assistant professor in the Islamic University of Science and Technology J&K, India, and has an extensive teaching experience in Finance and Marketing. He is a member of the editorial and advisory board of the Inter-Continental Management Research Review (ICMRR). He has also been associated with the Gems B school. Br. Hasnain has published many research papers on diversified subjects such as Islamic finance, Euro-zone crisis, credit rating agencies, advertising and financial inclusion in reputed international refereed journals; and has presented a paper at the International Conference at SMVDU, Katra. He has solely authored a book “Business Ethics and Corporate Governance - a textbook with cases” and is one of the best sellers of the publisher. Br. Hasnain has participated in various business festivals and contests and many faculty program workshops. He has been awarded first position in the “Launch A Product” at the SMVDU, Katra, and has received a certificate of excellence by the HDFC. Br. Hasnain is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration from the IGNOU.
Ibrahim Nashat Ahmed is an Egyptian and is currently pursuing his 4th year as a Pharmacy student at Misr International University. He graduated from the schools of the Azhar and memorized the Noble Quran 4 years ago. He has also been serving as an Imam, in Taraweeh prayers and Tahajjud prayers, for 4 years. He was assigned as Imam of the al-Tawheed Mosque for Fajr prayers recently and has served as the imam of the Al-Hedaya mosque for Fajr prayer for the past 2 years. He has also participated the in Al-Arqam Quran Competition and he is working on
al-ijaza with Shaykh Awl.
Born on 1 September 1986 in Durban, South Africa, Abu Muawiyah began his study of Islam at the age of thirteen. After seven years in a Darul Uloom, Abu Muawiyah graduated at the age of twenty and continued his study of Islam under scholars from a variety of groups and math'habs.
In 2007, Abu Muawiyah joined the Islamic Online University as one of its first students. In this same year, he met Dr. Bilal Philips and became one of his students.
Abu Muawiyah has served as a Da'ee for IIFRI, and as an Islamic Studies, Arabic and Economics teacher at Ihsaan Boys College in 2008. In 2009, he taught Social Studies, English and Economics with an Islamized curriculum at the Al-Fajr International School in Chennai, India.
In 2010, he became one of the first Tutorial Assistants of the Islamic Online University's BAIS program. He is currently the TA for Fiqh, Arabic and Tafseer at IOU, as well as the Head Tutorial Assistant of IOU's BAIS and Higher Diploma Programs.
Abu Muawiyah is the author of "Having Fun the Halal Way: Entertainment in Islam" and hosts two weekly Radio Programs on Radio Al-Ansaar "The Divine Connection: Understanding the Quran" and "Dawah Dynamics".
Abu Muawiyah has lectured at various workshops, conferences and youth camps around South Africa and other countries, and is currently in his final year of his BA studies.
Abu Muawiyah is married, has four children, and currently resides in Durban, South Africa.
Kamil Ahmad holds a BA in Shariah from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and a post-graduate Diploma in Da`wah from the faculty of Da`wah & Usul-ud-Din. Currently, he is pursuing an MA in Aqeeda from Qassim University.
Laja Yasini began his studies of Islam at the age of 7 at the local madrasah in Gweru Zimbabwe where he later became an Imam. In 2002, he was accepted to study at the main Darool Uloom in Zimbabwe: Darool Uloom Waterfalls.
In 2005, he received a scholarship to continue his studies at the Islamic University of Madinah where he obtained a Diploma in Arabic, Thaanawiya certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sharia.
He is active in da’wah both locally and internationally. He is a site operator for an online da’wah website (chatislamonline.org), head of the Da’wah Department of the Islamic Information Services of Zimbabwe, chairman for Gabriel of Hope Da’wah Foundation, Imaam and khateeb for the Zeenatoel Islam Masjid in Bulawayo Zimbabwe, and a member of the Bulawayo Muslim Association.
Currently, he is pursuing his L.L.B Degree (Bachelor of Laws) at the University of South Africa while furthering his Sharia degree with a Master’s Degree in Islamic Studies (I.O.U).
Luqman Plato hails from the shores of Cape Town, South Africa. He always had a sense of enthusiasm to study the religion of Islam. After completing his secondary education, he furthered his studies at the Darul Arqam Institute, where he learnt basic Islamic Studies and Arabic; it was at that point in time, he developed a love for the Arabic Language.
He studied at the Islamic University of Madina, completing the two-year Arabic diploma course, and thereafter graduated from the Faculty of Arabic Language in 2012.
He is currently an Arabic Instructor for the Ummul Qura Institute in Cape Town, and conducts classes in Fiqh, Hadeeth, Qur’Än Reading and Tafseer at various schools.
He is also a Khateeb and is well known for reciting the Qur’Än at mosques all around the Cape.
Mariam Fathi is an Egyptian, born and brought up in Makkah. She finished her Bachelors of Arts at Ain Shams University in the year 2006.
In 2003, she completed the Quran Teacher Preparation course at Al_fatth mosque. In 2006, she finished her first Ijazah under the supervision of Ustadah Aisha Abd el raheem, to Hafs An Aasim.
In 2009, she received the Al Azhar Tajweed Certification for the recitation in the way of Hafs an Aasim at the Girls Institute of Quran in Shoubra. She finished studying at Al-Fadellah Institute for religious studies in Nasr City and served as a Quran teacher at the Dar Al-Emaan mosque, Al-Fatth mosque, Hafsa mosque and Fajr Center for teaching Quran to non-Arabic speakers.
In 2010, she finished her second Ijazah for Hafs under the supervision of Sheikha Khadeeja who is known as Umm Ab el-salam. In 2011, she finished her Ijazah for Warsh recitation with the noble teacher Maha Bahy El-Deen. And in 2012, she completed the Ijazah for Ibn Katheer recitation.
These days Maria Fathi is reciting under the guidance of Ustada Maha Bahy, Al kesaiy and Kalaf Al Asher
Mariam Nashat Ahmed is an Egyptian and has done her Bachelor of Science through Ain Shams University, Cairo. She attended the summer school (1993 to 1998) at Dar Al-Eman for teaching Quran in Nasr city, Cairo, Egypt. She completed the Quran Teacher Preparation Course (2008) at Al-fatth Mosque in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt. She also received the Al Azhar Tajweed Certification (2006) for the recitation in the way of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim at The Azharic Institute of Qeraat in Shobra, Cairo, Egypt. She served as the summer (1999/2000) Quran teacher at Dar Aleman mosque for teaching Quran located in Nasr city, Cairo, Egypt. In the academic year (2004-2005) she served as the Quran teacher for the kindergarten class at the Ajyad Azhary School, located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt. She also served as a Quran teacher for kindergarten and grade one, in Jana Dan Islamic International School, located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, during the academic year (2005-2006). She was also the Quran, religion and also the fun science Nursery teacher for kids from 2 to 4 years at the Sesame Club Nursery located in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, during the academic year (2010-2011). She is fluent in both Arabic and English. She is a very patient person, and has excellent interactive skills with students especially kids and has a highly social character with good communication skills.
Mohammed Bechir holds a master's degree in Finance from Tunisia. He has completed his bachelor's degree in administration. He further holds a certification in general accounting. He has received Qur'aan ijaaza from Sheikh Wissam el Tom and an ijaaza in Hadeeth from Sheikh Waleed el Manissi. He is the co-founder and accounting partner in comptabilite et confiance b.m.
Mohammed Irfan Khan was born in Kuwait. He is an Electrical and Electronics Engineer by profession. He is working as a Technical Manager at a prominent Da'wah organization named "Peace Propagation Center " (PPC) in Hyderabad,India.
He completed the Bachelors of Technology in (E.E.E.) Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. He has obtained a Diploma in Islamic Studies(Aqeedah) (DIS) under Sheikh Hussain Madani, from Peace Propagation Center(PPC), Hyderabad, India.
He has also completed Hifz-ul-Qur'an from Jami'at-ul-khairiyah, Jeddah, KSA. He is a certified Tajweed & Hifz-ul-Qur'an Trainer (Daurat-ul-Muallimeen) from Jami'at-ul-khairiyah, Jeddah, KSA .
He has also completed a short Arabic course under Sheikh Arshad Basheer Madani. He has completed a Da'wah Training under M.I.Ali, the president of PPC and has also gone through a short Da'wah camp under the guidance of Sheikh Arshad Basheer Madani.
He has learned to actively administer Da'wah events and has conducted them in various parts of India. He is also active in online Da'wah campaigns, run by PPC. He has the ability to develop and present educational programs and workshops as well.
Mrs. Vaseem Banu is from Hydrabad, India. She has earned a B.A. (phil.,psy., litt.), M.A. in English and Psychology, M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Psychology, through the Osmania University, Hyderabad. She earned a B.Ed through Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. She has 4 years of experience as the Head Mistress of a High School, and 5 years of experience as a lecturer of Psychology & English at the College of Education and Engineering. Since 2009, She has worked as a lecturer in Saudi Arabia, where she teaches Research Methodology, Phonetics, Language Learning and Pragmatics, at the undergraduate level. She is proficient in English, Urdu, Hindi and is highly interested in acquiring Quranic knowledge.
Mrs. Rasheeda Sulthana Mubeen is a Senior Scale Lecturer in one of the most reputed colleges in Chennai, India. She is also a part time faculty in one of the B.Ed colleges in Chennai.She has earned her a B.A., M.A. and M.Phil, in English Literature and is currently persuing her doctorate. She has also earned a B.Ed.(bachelor of education). She has also presented a number of papers at various seminars and conferences.
She is very interested in teaching and her aim in life has always been to become a teacher. She has a very different approach to teaching. Another very important field she is interested in, is editing. She has served as editor for an educational web site for the past few years. She is a very good counselor who not only understands the problems of her students but also provides sound solutions.
Mukhtar Raban was born in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He is a graduate of the Islamic University of Madinah, where he earned a diploma in Arabic Language Studies and a degree in Shari’ah. He has taught for the Al Madinah Institute in Port Elizabeth and regularly conducts Islamic seminars, with a focus on Shari’ah-related topics. He has completed TESOL studies and taught English Studies at various colleges in Saudi Arabia. He is currently completing his master's degree in the field of Applied Linguistics. At present, he is a lecturer at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa; leads the e-learning unit of the Department of Applied Language Studies and teaches Arabic short courses. He also serves as the Vice-President of the Council of Islamic Affairs and is a member of the Shar’iah Advisory Council in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. He presents short courses in Islamic Studies to his local community, is an established Khateeb and regularly is featured on various Islamic radio stations.
Mustafa Abdel Halim Mohammed Nabawy has earned a BA in Faculty of Languages â€‹â€‹and Translation from the Department of Islamic Studies in English at Al-Azhar University in 2007. He has received certificates of TOEFL in English in 2006, a certificate of Specialization in the ten qeraat el Quran from the Al-Azhar in 2005, certificate of Alyit al qeraat , the Minor (ways of reading Quran) from Al Azhar – Egypt in 2002, certificates of appreciation in many Quran competitions between the years of 1994-2004 and a certificate of Merit from the World Islamic & Sciences Education University in Jordan in the year 2010-2011.
He served as a full-time lecturer at the World Islamic & Sciences Education University in Amman, Jordan, for the academic year 2010-2011, He also served as the Imam of local mosques from 2001 to 2006, as a public relations officer in the company Egyptian Syrian in 2009, as an English translator of the Sinai from 2007 to 2009. He is proficient in speaking, writing and reading in English and experienced in German, Hebrew and Spanish as well.
Rosana Gulzar Mohd started her career as a financial journalist in Singapore. She then joined HSBC and worked in Singapore and Dubai. The stint gave her valuable exposure to Islamic finance. During her time with HSBC, she also completed the Chartered Financial Analyst exam level 1 and earned CIMA’s Diploma in Islamic Finance.
Her three years in Dubai was also spent learning Islam with AlHuda Sisters, an Islamic da’awah group for women all over the world. Inspired by the knowledge, Rosana has now completed almost 20 courses in IOU’s Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies. This is her fourth semester that she is teaching Islamic Economics at IOU.
A Second Upper Class Honours graduate in Communications Studies from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University, she is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Islamic Finance at INCEIF, the global university of Islamic finance, in Malaysia. Rosana enjoys teaching and learning Islamic finance, because it has brought her closer to her dream of an Islamic economy, as well as a truer Islamic banking and finance sector. With these aspirations, she also looks forward to pursuing her PhD in Islamic finance.
Shaibu Asali has an MA in Fiqh from the Hamad bin Khalifa University in Qatar. He graduated from the Islamic University of Medina with a degree in Sharee’ah. Br. Shaibu worked as an Imam at the Ardbennie Mosque in Harare, Zimbabwe. Then, he migrated to Lesotho where he worked as an Arabic-English translator at the Libyan embassy. Currently, he is involved in da’wah in his country, Zimbabwe. Moreover, he is engaged in online da’wah and works to translate Islamic books into English.
Soha Rajeev holds a master's degree in Psychology, a bachelor's in Islamic Studies and is a certified Cognitive Behavior Therapist with training under a fellow of the Albert Ellis Institute in New York.
Soha has worked as a school counselor at Al-Mu’minah. She was also a teacher and Head of the Department of Islamic Studies at Unity Public School. She has conducted workshops for women of all age groups and has written books and articles on topics related to Islam. Having worked at counseling clinics, she has counseled people from various walks of life and those with a variety of presenting issues. Her clients describe her as a‘kind, understanding and non-judgmental counselor ’.
Additionally, she has attended several workshops to hone her skills in Psychology- like Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Assertiveness training, study skills, aggression, suicidal tendencies, bereavement Counseling and has even conducted many workshops for sisters only.
She is currently working with the IOU as a Counseling Psychologist, and is a Tutorial Assistant for Psychology courses. She is also a trainer in public speaking, and the founder of ‘Speak Up!’, an academy which trains women in oratory skills.
Taskeen Abdul-Rawoof is from Toronto, Canada. She has studied under Sh. Uthman Khan at the Shatibiyyah Institute for Tajweed and Qira’at where she obtained her Ijazah in the recitation of Hafs an Asim. She has also studied Asharah Sugharah and is currently working on completing the memorization of the Quran. Currently, she is studying at York University in an Honours History and Concurrent Education program.
Tehseen Fatima is a Pakistani and British National who earned her master's in Environmental Sciences and Research work in Biochemistry from Fatima Jinnah Women's University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan. She has completed Islamic Courses including Translation and Tafseer of the Holy Qur'an, and a Hadeeth Course of Sahih Bukhari from Alhuda International. She also learned Tajweed from Skeikh Uthman Khan at Shatbiyyah Institute, in Canada and taught Tajweed at different levels at the Alhuda Institute in Canada and Pakistan, Sr. Tehseenis currently conducting Tajweed courses in a variety of cities. She is also a student of Ashrah Qira'at.

Umm Eesa has been studying the Qur'an under a number of teachers and shuyookh from an early age. She is a hafidha and also holds an Ijaazah in 'Ashara Sughra (ten Qiraa'aat) and a separate one in Hafs 'an 'Asim min Tareeq Al-Shatibiyyah. She teaches Tajweed and Hifdh both online and in her locality. She is currently conducting the general open sessions for brothers and sisters online at IOU
Umm Ibraheem was born in Afghanistan and migrated as a child with her family to Australia. She has graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arabic Language & Literature and Islamic Politics and History and further completed a postgraduate degree in Masters of Teaching (majoring in TESOL & History).
She has been very active in pursuing Islamic knowledge and participating in various Islamic educational and support programs in the Muslim community in Australia. She has taught history at a secondary school for the past eight years, which has been an enriching academic and teaching experience.
Currently, she is enrolled in a postgraduate Diploma of Psychology. In sha Allah, she is also keen to pursue further research and contribute to the education system of Afghanistan.
Sister Umm Rukhaiya has a bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. She had ijazaa in hafs an aasem reading with a chain connected to Prophet Mohammed (SAW). She is now a student at the Pathway Institute in Islamic Diploma for Dawaa. She is also enrolled in Khatma of kaloon an nafi reading, shouba an aasem reading, and warsh an nafi reading.
Yusuf Gassiep (Abu Hamza) was born in 1981 and raised in Manenberg on the Cape Flats. After completing high school he performed Hajj in 1999 and then travelled to Egypt to meet up with his hifth teacher from Cape Town who at the time was also in Egypt pursuing higher studies. It was in the dusty city of Cairo where he spent the following 9 years of his life enrolled at the Al Azhar Institute and later majored in Hadith at the Al Azhar University’s faculty of Usoolu Deen. He attended the classes of many of the Ulamah in cairo at the various mosques of Jamaat Ansaru Sunah Al Muhamadeyah. Some of his teachers are Dr Mohammed Yousri, Sheikh Shareef Husain Abdul Qadir, Sheikh Tariq ibn Iwadullah, Sheikh Osama Sulaiman ,and Dr Omar Abdul Azeez .He also attended the monthly lectures of Sheikh Mustafa Al Adawi.
He had the opportunity of attending the lectures of Sheikh Safwat Nurudeen (rahimahu ALLAH) , Sheikh Abi Ishaq Al Huwaini and Sheikh Mohammed Hassan whenever they visited Cairo.
He also completed the Fajr Centre Arabic courses and pursued the Khitaba course offered by the Fajr Centre. One of the first books he ever bought as a student of knowledge was Sheikh ibn Uthaymeen’s (rahimahu ALLAH) Explanation of Al Aqeedah Al Wasitiyah and since then he developed a great love for Sheikh ibn Uthaymeens work's.
On his return to South Africa in 2008, he was offered a post as an English teacher in Buraidah Saudi Arabia. He then travelled to Saudi Arabia and worked there till January 2011. During his stay there he was involved with the Buraidah Dawa Centre and was a Hajj guide for new Muslims.
In 2011 he became the first Imam of the Town Centre Mosque in Cape Town South Africa. Currently, he is an instructor at the Al huda foundation which offers short courses on various topics.
Zahra Anwer was brought up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After completing her bachelor's in Commerce, she joined the Dar Al Huda Qur'an School for Tajweed and was blessed to study with the wonderful teachers there. She studied tajweed under the supervision of Sheikhah Kareema Carol Czerepinski [the author of a series of the three books called 'Tajweed Rules of the Qur'an.]. She completed her four years there and got an ijazah. She also completed short courses of- tawheed,tafseer and fiqh us sunnah. She was blessed to study tafseer and basic fiqh with Umm Muhammad [the author and translator of Saheeh International Publications], and other amazing sisters at the Islamic Cultural Center in Jeddah.
